IE6 and the Wild Wide Web
The web is a wild place. It is a magnificent man-made creation that allows everybody with a connection to freely publish their content to the entire world. There are many different technologies, constantly evolving to make the web a more advanced and potentially more beautiful place. All of this information and development has a set of constraints, however, and the fruits of one's work must abide The Web Browser.
As the browsers develop, the leash gets that little bit longer, allowing people (like us) to develop more advanced experiences for users. Obviously, though, not everybody upgrades at the same speed.
Fairhead Creative try to be as backwards-compatible as possible when developing websites and web content. We appreciate that some technologies take a while to become standard, and we make sure that people across different browsers can engage with our creations and experience the beauty of our designs.
There as been a quite a lot of talk on the web of late regarding killing off IE6 and, in the best interests of the developing world of the web, we agree with these statements.
We encourage you to upgrade from IE6. Making websites support IE6 is less about "being careful everything works okay" and more about "rewriting the site to work just for IE6". This process can at times cause a massive increase in workload, which means that customers are paying more for their website than they should have to.
To remedy this, we will begin offering IE6 support as an extra Legacy Support feature. All of our creations "work" in IE6, but with all the new technologies around, to make a similar experience to newer browsers can be a lot more work. (We believe that) this will decrease costs for customers wanting websites, the load online holding all of the many IE6 fixes, and will allow for usage of the latest web technologies.
We encourage users to use Safari, Firefox, Chrome or Opera (or Internet Explorer 8) and help kill IE6.
